February 12- Technical Meeting- OSHA Recordkeeping

Cari Gray from Bureau of Worker’s Compensation will be presenting on OSHA Recordkeeping and the newest changes. Sign up on our events page.

Cari has been a Safety Consultant with the BWC since May 2005. She works with a diverse range of companies in many different industries, from public entities to a wide variety of private companies. She helps customers evaluate their current safety situations, set goals and create plans of action to successfully achieve their goals. She also teaches many safety related classes for the BWC.

Prior to working at the BWC, Cari was an Environmental, Safety and Health Manager for General Electric. She also worked in the Safety Department of an automotive based company, after graduating from The Ohio State University in 1999.

Cari is very passionate about the safety and health of Ohio employees. Her philosophy is based around top management commitment, employee involvement and personal responsibility. Her time outside of work is happily spent with her husband, two children, two dogs and flock of chickens.

January 8 – Technical Meeting – Drug-free Workplace Programs

Please join us for our McKinley ASSP January 8 Technical Meeting at which Rhiannon Whalen-Harris from OneEighty, Inc will be discussing drug-free workplace programs along with signs and symptoms employers should know. OneEighty assists individuals with Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault, Addiction, Rape Crisis, Mental Health, Housing, and Prevention and Education services. For our presentation, they’ll be focusing on drugs in the workplace.

Dinner and social will be from 6pm-7pm and the technical portion of the meeting will be from 7pm-8pm at The Basement in Brimfield.

December 11 Christmas Social

Please join us for our annual Christmas social on December 11 from 6pm-8pm at Mike’s Place in Kent. The McKinley Chapter is honored to pay for the heavy hors d’oeuvres for all guests. November 13 – Technical Meeting- Canine Support in Critical Incident Stress Management

Please join us November 13 from 6pm-8pm as the Crisis Response Canines present on Canine Support in Critical Incident Stress Management. We will enjoy the presentation at the Lake Community Branch, Stark County Library beginning at 6pm. Following the meeting we will enjoy pizza and conversation.

Crisis Response Canines (CRC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization comprised of certified K9 teams throughout the United States who have dedicated thousands of hours comforting those impacted by personal or community crisis events. Our highly trained K9 teams are experienced in psychological first aid and certified to work effectively in crisis environments supporting anyone affected by mass shootings, large-scale accidents, violence, abuse, tragic death, suicides, terrorism, natural disasters (fire, flood, hurricane, etc.) and more.

Shirley Graziano is the CRC Team Lead of the Ohio Chapter of Crisis Response Canines. Shirley spent several years working with law enforcement and observed firsthand the impact of traumatic events and cumulative effects of events on her law enforcement family. Shirley learned of Crisis Response Canines and began to research the positive influence of the CRC canines and handlers interactions with first responders and communities. It was then that she committed to CRC’s program of rigorous training and advanced certifications.

October 9 Technical Meeting-Leveraging Technology to Assist Safety Programs

Please join us October 9 as Cameron Schwartz presents on Leveraging Technology to Assist Safety Programs. Dinner and social will be from 6pm-7pm and presentation from 7pm-8pm at The Basement in Brimfield.

Cameron Schwartz was a safety manager for Dutch Quality Stone in Amish Country for over a decade, and then was hired by the Overhead Door Corporation to manage their safety operations until 2020.   Since then, he took a little bit of a turn, and now works for Origami Risk.   Origami Risk is a safety and risk management platform that clients use to manage incident management and other safety related items.

Goodyear Wingfoot Lake Hangar Tour

Please join McKinley ASSP as we tour of the Goodyear Wingfoot Lake Hangar with the Airship Team on September 11, 2023 beginning at 5:00pm. Please arrive no earlier than 4:30pm. The tour will last about one hour. after which the Chapter will enjoy a social dinner at a local restaurant. Space for the tour is limited, so please registration is required. Built in 1917, the hangar at Wingfoot Lake is the oldest airship facility and one of the oldest active aircraft bases in the world. In addition to maintenance and construction facility for Goodyear’s blimp fleet. In 2018 the Wingfoot Lake Hangar was awarded an Ohio historical marker recognizing its contributions to Lighter-Than-Air aviation in general as well as its military significance during WWI and WWII. The very first class of airship pilots was training at Wingfoot Lake.

Did you know that without its lifting gas, an empty Blimp weighs almost 20,000 lbs.?
